The pot just got a little sweeter for the BCS National Championship game. Baton Rouge Mayor Kip Holden has placed a bet with Tuscaloosa Mayor Walter Maddox.
The bet isn?t over money, but secret sauces developed by popular eateries in their respective cities. For good measure, the two mayors threw in some gear from their local colleges.
If the LSU Tigers win the game and the national championship, Maddox has agreed to send Holden three gallons of signature BBQ sauce from Dreamland BBQ, which has been a Tuscaloosa landmark since 1958, along with a ?Roll Tide? hat.
If the Alabama Crimson Tide wins, then Holden has agreed to send Maddox three gallons of Cane?s sauce from Raising Cane?s, the rapidly growing chicken finger restaurant chain that was founded and remains headquartered in Baton Rouge. In addition, Maddox will receive some LSU Coach Les Miles/Cane?s ?fist bump? shirts to round out the bet. The shirts depict Miles? appearance in a recent Cane's television commercial.
This isn?t the first time that Mayor Holden has made a friendly wager with a rival mayor over an important LSU game.
The last time LSU played for a national championship was in 2008 against Ohio State and Holden made a similar bet with Columbus, Ohio, Mayor Michael Coleman.
Both Holden and Coleman agreed that the mayor whose team lost the game would wear the other team?s jersey at the next council meeting.
LSU won that game and Coleman wound up sporting a No. 8 Trindon Holliday LSU jersey at the next Columbus City Council meeting.
